Alice's Adventures in Wonderland
Aug 20, 2017
By Lewis Carroll
I think the writing is great. I like the phrases and conversations that have absolutely no sense because that's how you can tell it's just a dream. They're poetic even without being part of a poem. I think the whole book it's poesy.
I didn't really care about the characters. They were just there, flat, nothing interesting about them. They didn't have a past or attitude so there was nothing to relate to. I know it was just a dream and I know Alice's young but she was way too naive and innocent and submissive for my taste.
The writer does a great work putting into words a dream. That's something I admire. He describes everything exactly as you would feel it, see it and thought about it in a dream. He made every impossibility possible.
Alice goes to different places in Wonderland and she does this without any transition. Just like in a dream, one second she's here and the next second she's somewhere else. The writer continues with the story so smoothly when this happens that you don't even find it strange and don't find yourself thinking too much about it when she changes scenarios.
I really wanted to like it. I didn't. I wouldn't recommend this book. I got bored and stressed reading it. I'll give it another try with Through the Looking-Glass, and What Alice Found There.
UPDATE: I hated Through the Looking-Glass even more so I'm not doing a review.

First of all, I had such a hard time reading this book. I don't know if it was because I was putting too much pressure on myself to finish it quickly or to like it but I was just tired of it. I know is Lewis Carroll's most famous work. It's not that there's something wrong with it, I just didn't feel it.
