A Thousand Pieces Of You by Claudia Gray
Feb 24, 2017
Well, this book certainly wasn't what I expected. First, I felt like I should read it mainly because of the cover. I mean... it is the most beautiful thing you've ever seen. Then I read the plot and I discovered that it was a fantasy/science fiction book and those are definitely my favorites.
This book is about a young girl called Marguerite. She lives with her parents and her older sister. Her parents are scientists and are very smart. They created an artifact, called the Firebird, that can transport you through different dimensions. What I mean by this is that, in a world where you know every decision you make can lead you to different scenarios, a lot of other different dimensions will be created where you might have not made the same decision. This will lead to thousands of worlds with different possibilities.
She doesn't live just with her family; she also lives with her parents' assistants, Paul Markov and Theo Beck. She kind of has had a little crush for both of them. They practically live in the same house and she knows practically everything about them.
The story starts when Marguerite's father is murdered and the main suspect is Paul due to the fact that he ran away when they found out her father was dead. Theo feels destroyed too because he considers Marguerite's father is like a father to him and is hurt because he considered Paul was like a brother to him. They know Paul ran away to another dimension so they couldn't find him. Theo has two more Firebirds so she convinces Marguerite to go after Paul and avenge her father.
I liked this book to be honest. I don't know why some people are giving it such a hard time. I read it like in a day because it's one of those books where you get hooked to the story very easily. I won't say it is better than Percy Jackson or Harry Potter or that is the best fantasy book that I've read but I do think it is good and I'm patiently waiting to buy and read the other two. I think these books will be a good saga.
I liked this one because as I said before this wasn't what I expected. At the beginning everything is weird and you have your suspects about everyone because there are some things that don't fit. Later I found out why. At the end no one is who you think they were. I also loved the love stories, even the ones that made me sad. I think the writer is very creative and she has in her hands a saga with a lot of potential that I will continue to enjoy.
